Mayor John Coiro

John

John Coiro is a native of Totowa presently residing at 107 Liberty Ridge Trail with his wife, Marygrace, and their children, Alyssa and Matthew. John is a graduate of Memorial Grammar School and Passaic Valley High School. He continued his education at Seton Hall University where, in 1981, he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Accounting.  In 1990, he received his Master’s Degree in Taxation at Seton Hall.  John is a Certified Public Accountant and licensed in New Jersey.  He is currently employed as an Executive Tax Director with the international accounting firm of Ernst & Young located in Iselin, NJ.  In 2007/2008, John served as President of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, an organization with 15,000 members. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and serves as Council member. He is also a board member on the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey and on the Board of Advisors for the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Seton Hall.

John is currently serving his forth term as Mayor, having first been elected in 1999.  Before becoming Mayor, he was a member of the Council for 12 years and the Totowa Board of Education for 2 years. In 2008, he was inducted into the League of Municipalities Elected Officials Hall of Fame.  Actively interested in the youth of Totowa, he is the town’s liaison to the Passaic County Council on Drug and Alcohol Prevention.  John is also President of Murph’s Boys Charitable Association and is a member of the Totowa Borough Italian-American Independent Club. John and his family are parishioners at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Totowa.
