Councilman Jim Niland
Jim Niland is serving his third term on the Totowa Borough Council. He grew up in the Borough of Totowa and presently lives at 69 Washington Place. Jim has three children, Christina, James and Brigid. He graduated from Passaic Valley in 1979.
In 1999, Jim was appointed then elected to the Passaic Valley High School Board of Education where he was Chairman of the Community Welfare and Student Alliance Committee, the Public Relations Committee and Athletics Committee. He served on the Education, Policies, Negotiations and Operations Committees as well. During his term on the School Board, Jim further served as both a Passaic County School Board delegate and New Jersey School Board delegate.
Jim was appointed to the Council in June of 2003 and elected to his first full term in November of that year. He is the Chairman of the Public Safety Committee and serves on the Public Works Committee as well as the Legislative & Ordinances Committee. He is also a member of the Union Boulevard Beautification Committee.
Jim has been very active in the Totowa PAL for many years. He has coached both baseball and football, was a member of the Baseball Committee and served as Football Commissioner. In addition, Jim was involved in the Junior Hornet Wrestling Program for over 10 years.
